Introduction

Ever need a fact or quotation on Benes? Designed for speechwriters, journalists, writers, researchers, students, professors, teachers, historians, academics, scrapbookers, trivia buffs and word lovers, this is the largest book ever created for this single word. It represents a compilation from a variety of sources with a linguistic emphasis on anything relating to the term “Benes,” including non-conventional usage and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities. The entries cover all parts of speech (noun, verb, adverb or adjective usage) as well as use in modern slang, pop culture, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This “data dump” results in many unexpected examples for Benes, since the editorial decision to include or exclude terms is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under “fair use” conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. Proceeds from this book are used to expand the content and coverage of Webster’s Online Dictionary (www.websters-online-dictionary.org).

Description

Ever need a fact or quotation on "geology and ourselves"? Designed for speechwriters, journalists, writers, researchers, students, professors, teachers, historians, academics, scrapbookers, trivia buffs and word lovers, this is the largest book ever created for this word. It represents a compilation of "single sentences" and/or "short paragraphs" from a variety of sources with a linguistic emphasis on anything relating to the term "geology and ourselves," including non-conventional usage and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities. This is not an encyclopedic book, but rather a collage of statements made using the word "geology and ourselves," or related words (e.g. inflections, synonyms or antonyms). This title is one of a series of books that considers all major vocabulary words. The entries in each book cover all parts of speech (noun, verb, adverb or adjective usage) as well as use in modern slang, pop culture, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This data dump results in many unexpected examples for "geology and ourselves," since the editorial decision to include or exclude terms is purely a computer-generated linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under fair use conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain.

Hungary - News: April 5, 2002 — Headline: Hungary Elections Concern EU. Excerpt: He has also made clear that neighboring Slovakia and the Czech Republic should not be allowed into the European Union, unless they repeal the 1945 Benes Decrees, which stripped ethnic Germans and Hungarians in those countries of property and citizenship.

Historical Economy in Czech Republic. A civilian uprising against the German garrison took place in Prague in May 1945. Following Germany's surrender, some 2.9 million ethnic Germans were expelled from Czechoslovakia with Allied approval under the Benes Decrees.

Historical Economy in Czech Republic. Reunited after the war, the Czechs and Slovaks set federal and national elections for the spring of 1946. The democratic elements, led by President Eduard Benes, hoped the Soviet Union would allow Czechoslovakia the freedom to choose its own form of government and aspired to a Czechoslovakia that would act as a bridge between East and West.

Patent Usage

Algorithm for fault tolerant routing in benes networks: Patented by Manoj Kumar on November 8, 1994. Abstract: Benes networks are used in SIMD single instruction multiple data parallel processing systems to provide interprocessor communication. The invention describes an algorithm which will allow these networks to be used in presence of several faults, without reducing their interconnection capability.

An Interconnection Network for a Field Programmable Gate Array: Patented by Dale Wong on August 3, 2001. Abstract: An interconnection network architecture which provides an interconnection network which is especially useful for FPGAs is described. Based upon Benes networks, the resulting network interconnect is rearrangeable so that routing between logic cell terminals is guaranteed. Upper limits on time delays for the network interconnect are defined and pipelining for high speed operation is easily implemented. The described network interconnect offers flexibility so that many design options are presented to best suit the desired application.

Container having a box blank with removably attached lid blank: Patented by John E. Herbst and Joseph J. Benes on January 4, 1997. Abstract: A container constructed from a cut and scored foldable blank of cardboard or similar material which includes a box blank, which when folded defines a box having four sides extending upward from a bottom to define an open top and a lid blank that is removably secured to the box blank, which when removed and folded defines an enclosure for the open top.

Electrical terminal for glass sheets: Patented by Kevin C. Benes, Yves Le Pottier and Bruce F. Smith on August 5, 1997. Abstract: An electrical terminal is provided for an electrically heated glass sheet. The terminal includes a base plate defining a central axis generally perpendicular thereto. The base plate is concentric about the axis to facilitate spin-soldering the terminal to a conductive pad on the glass sheet. A terminal post projects upwardly from the base plate for connection to an appropriate mating terminal. The terminal is a drawn, one-piece laminated structure including a base conductor layer and a solder layer.

Filtered electrical connector with terminal tail aligner: Patented by Kevin Benes on January 1, 1999. Abstract: A filtered electrical connector assembly includes a dielectric housing mounting a plurality of terminals which include tail portions projecting from the housing. A filter component is mounted over the tail portions against the housing. A tail aligner is engageable with the housing and includes a plurality of holes through which the tail portions of the terminals extend. The tail aligner includes an anti-vibration portion for engaging the filter component to prevent the filter component from vibrating relative to the connector housing.
